What is an air roll and what role does it play in an air curtain?
An air roll is the air stream that circulates between the air discharge and air intake areas of an air curtain. The precisely directed air stream forms an air barrier between the indoor and outdoor areas across an open doorway.
The air roll reduces air exchange
Air curtains create an air roll by drawing in air and discharging it in a precisely directed air stream. This forms an air barrier that reduces air exchange between indoor and outdoor areas. The air stream reaches the floor and is then partly drawn back into the air curtain through the air intake. In this way, the air roll can reduce the ingress of cold or warm outdoor air as well as dust and odours.
By reducing air exchange across an open doorway, the air roll can also reduce the associated heating and cooling losses.
Teddington distinguishes between two types of air roll: the internally rotating air roll (IDW) and the externally rotating air roll (ADW). Depending on the building and door situation, the air curtain can be installed using either configuration.
Detailed information on IDW and ADW installation of Air Curtains can be found here.
Air curtain with IDW installation, e.g. for positive internal pressure or moderate wind loads. The air roll rotates from the doorway towards the room.
Air curtain with ADW installation, e.g. for negative internal pressure or regular wind loads. The air roll rotates towards the doorway.
