Teddington’s patented pressure-chamber nozzle system
The air discharge system of an air curtain is crucial to the effective separation of a door or gate opening. Teddington engineers developed the patented CONVERGO® pressure-chamber nozzle system for exactly this purpose. Compared with conventional louvre-based air discharge systems, it delivers clear advantages in airflow control, separation performance and energy efficiency.
The CONVERGO® nozzle system is based on the Venturi principle: air is accelerated by narrowing the flow cross-section. The airflow is compressed in the pressure chamber, strongly accelerated through the nozzle and distributed evenly across the full discharge width. Aerofoil-shaped profiles divide the airflow into a core jet and a supporting jet before bringing them back together. A concave groove on the outer nozzle profile deflects unwanted outside air, while a soft inner edge supports the desired induction of room air into the air curtain.
The result is a highly focused air jet that can effectively separate even high and wide door openings with low energy demand. This achieves maximum separation down to the threshold with a lower air volume and reduced heat input.
The nozzle discharge angle can be finely adjusted using a stepped setting mechanism, making it more adaptable than conventional louvre systems. This allows the air curtain to be precisely matched to the conditions on site.
Maximum efficiency
Thanks to the patented CONVERGO® pressure-chamber nozzle system, Teddington air curtains achieve maximum separation performance and high efficiency with a lower air mass and higher discharge velocities than conventional air curtains. This also reduces the heating output required by around 30%.
